Lights in Every Street - Christian Fellowship in Your Street

What is a Light in my Street?

A light in your street is a community of Christians praying and working together irrespective of their denomination. The Lord Jesus wants us to be one and His promise is that when we love one another, the world will believe (John 17:21). Sadly today Christians sometimes do not even know the other Christians on their own street, let alone pray or work together with them.

Being a light in your street means that you pray for your neighbours, get to know them, and find out if there are any Christians. You befriend your neighbours and pray with them, invite them for a cup of tea or for a meal. You help people in your street in practical ways, and so transform your neighbourhood for our Lord Jesus Christ. You win others to Christ and make them disciples and members of Godís family. You seek to have fellowship together as they did in the book of Acts. You encourage each other to follow the Lord better.

Our example is the life of the first disciples after the day of Pentecost: ďThose who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being savedĒ (Acts 2: 41-47).

You can think of people on your street as on a journey. At first there may not be any Christians. At the end, all the neighbours are one sharing, welcoming family in Christ. Your job is to help everyone in your street move towards the Lord. As the light grows stronger, unity in Christ and commitment to work together increase.

If you are not a light in your street, who else will be? You are your brotherís keeper. You and the other Christians in your street constitute Godís family in your street. May God help you to grow into a real family together.
